Basically the "sarcastic, surly, 'why was I ever dragged into stealing ancient crap from all over the world I hate my life' historian."
Dr. Daniel J. Goldstein is a world-renowned historian, focusing on ancient history. He will gladly inform you that he holds various degrees, awards, and doctorates from distinguished universities, whether or not you really want to know. Although he has traveled the world over, he is most in his element when performing research inside a comfortable building. He is also multi-lingual, and has taught in universities, worked for archival centers, government agencies, written a few books, and worked as a freelance consultant. For reasons he cannot begin to explain were he to be asked, he joined a treasure-hunting team, originally as their temporary consultant, then later as their very own, resident historian. The money is not as important to him as the chance of discovery. The fame and recognition is nice, too.
Dan has been divorced for ten years now with no plans of remarrying again. While he doesn't have any children, he sometimes complains that he's something of an over-glorified babysitter for the 'kids' he works with. Personality-wise, he's sarcastic, surly, arrogant, but not really a mean-hearted person.
